The legacy of brutal colonization, slavery and exploitation by the Global North is still very strongly felt across Africa. And this has only been brought into sharper focus by more recent Chinese economic expansion, the devastating impact of climate change and Covid vaccine inequity. But there are still signs of hope that a new generation of leaders in a more united Africa can overcome the continent’s past history and current challenges to become a strong and vibrant member of the global community, turning paternalism into powerful partnership, neglect into healthy growth and aid into fair trade.
